Member Engagement Specialist
Three Rivers Electric Cooperative is seeking a full-time Member Engagement Specialist. This position develops and participates in marketing, communication, and community outreach programs to promote the services and goals of the Cooperative through radio, television, print, and electronic media.
Responsibilities
- The Country Circuit: Assists Senior Member Engagement Specialist to write, edit and proof an eight-page monthly magazine The Country Circuit. The magazine is inserted in Rural Missouri.
- Writes or oversees writing/publication of monthly employee newsletter.
- Oversees content and posting for website, social media, and digital sign.
- Writes and distributes news releases to media outlets when necessary (Annual Meeting, severe storms, Foundation check presentations, Youth Tour, CYCLE, retirements, etc.) Establishes working relationship with local news media.
- Annual Meeting and Member Appreciation Events: Works with others to plan and execute Annual Meeting, member appreciation events, and other events. This includes everything from securing venues, working with caterers, ordering giveaways, contracting with entertainment, and working with board and management team on speeches.
- Youth Tour: Assists Senior Member Engagement Specialist with organizing all aspects of the Youth Tour program, from choosing a prompt to visiting schools and planning the final competition. Works with member services personnel and administrative staff on some aspects.
- CYCLE: Organizes all aspects of the Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (CYCLE) at a local level. Includes preparing applications, contacting schools, and working with delegates who are chosen for the program.
- Gilbert G. Hilkemeyer Scholarship: Develops marketing materials and updates application for the Gilbert G. Hilkemeyer Scholarship. Sends applications to schools; promotes the program through social media and magazine; chooses judges for reviewing applications and choosing recipients.
- Advertising: Is responsible for or oversees co-op advertising, including newspaper, digital, yearbook, fair book, radio and tv advertising.
- Responsible for the publication of legal ads including non-discrimination (published in The Country Circuit near Annual Meeting date) and capital credits ads.
- Organizations: Is an active member of Mid-State 8, the statewide member service group, chambers of commerce and other civic and/or professional groups as needs or opportunities arise.
- Programs: Prepares and presents programs for civic groups, schools, youth groups. Programs include visiting schools for career fairs, democracy days, etc. Works with linemen and member services personnel to attend these programs.
- Member Interaction: Consults with members on items including high bills, programs, magazine articles and general information.
- Training: Attends training courses or workshops recommended by Supervisor or General Manager.
- Monitors Media: Monitors print, social, television and digital media for information about the co-op and sends items of interest to staff. Maintains clippings in notebook for future generations.
- Preserving History: Binds monthly magazines and makes sure they are digitally prepared in document vault. Ensures all photos are scanned, tagged, and placed in Brandfolder.
- Special Events: Works with Senior Member Engagement Specialist and members of department in planning and executing events including Christmas and retirement parties.
Supervision/Direction of Others
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Internal Relationships
Works with staff and employees to increase public relations awareness of all employees and works with other departments on projects unrelated to Member Services if needed.

Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, advertising, education (History, English, or other related area), multi-media communications and/or marketing.
- At least two years’ experience in writing for publication (newsletter, magazine, newspaper) or agency; managing website content and/or digital/social media development.
- Create, edit, and proof written content for various communications channels.
- Skills and ability to develop and execute presentations and represent Three Rivers Electric Cooperative to varying audiences.
- Creative mindset to produce variety of content and keep materials fresh and relevant.
- Helpful to have experience in video and audio production.
- Strong relationship building and communication skills with a positive demeanor to serve as a liaison between cooperative members, management team and employees; media outlets (newspaper, radio, and television); and teachers/schools (for youth programs and activities).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud applications, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; Canva; and a working knowledge and real-world experience in planning, managing, and executing social/digital media initiatives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Plan and execute events including logistics and communication.
- Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends in addition to regularly scheduled hours.

- Working Conditions
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position. Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and may require additional hours or weekend work.
- Occasional business travel may be required.
- Employee may also be required to handle and perform work safely and efficiently through stressful situations.

- Physical Demands
- Works in a climate-controlled office environment. Job requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
